Out of a Muddy Pond Ten thousand Flowers Bloom

Author's Note:

David Rudder is a poet that stirs in me the same feelings I get when I read Walcott and Lovelace. He speaks our language so eloquently but with pride and honor that echoes a purely Trinbagonian Existence.

This song is forever a favorite of panmen and women. It is the perfect Praise Hymn. An intricate melody, a singing base line, a testament to struggle and perseverance. He even avoids the ego - refusing to name names so all get their due. Cause as we know, like politics and religion, a discussion on the best pan man or band can lead to heated debate. It is the history of the instrument.

This song is Forever Rudder. Lilting. Catchy. Resonant. And a Pan Man...and Woman's..Honor.

Dedication - A Praise Song
May 15 2007 [Defending his prior win in 2006]

Out of pain this culture was born
In life's shadowed places the magic was spawned.
Well the tribes they regrouped again
Faught their wars on a brand new plane
And through their strife their manhood was reborn
and so from all this bacchanal
life is now a festival and you can hear the children sing

here them singing

This Praise song was written for the Pan Man
To all those who shown their dedication
Out of Yesterday's Rejection, onward to a new perfection
From a hunger came a feel, from that feel we shaped the steel
So we sing the song of praise for those who
Helped to clear the path that we can see through
So now our children they have a source so very Trinbagonian of course.
Out of a Muddy pond ten thousand flowers bloom

Not one name not one will i call
because to name a few will make the others feel small
But I hope when they hear my song it will keep them proud and strong
and a once bitter man might shrug and sing along..
And any time we cathch him doing that
we could beat we chest and thats a fact
cause we know that this song could never be in vain..

There will be fools and fools always play their games
but as we forward on we shall always know their names
cause just as the fire expands the steel so do our minds will grow to reveal a tomorrow that today we can only feel
and betweenthe wrist and the rubber there is a new truth to discover that new melody that glorious song of songs
